Captain Lahrman was on duty when he decided to take a nap around 5pm. He
instructed the engineer on watch to wake him at 8pm. Lahrman was found dead
in his bed that evening. He had not complained of any ill feeling and
appeared to be healthy prior to his passing. It had been a hot day and the
enquirer noted several other persons who were overcome by the heat of the day,
some of whom died. Lahrman was made captain of Engine 01 after being promoted
from pipeman following the promotion of the previous Captain, Joe Bunker to
Assistant Chief.
