Died as result of a fall from the roof of the Christian Morlein Brewery, 672-674 Elm Street. After the fire in the brewery had been extinguished, Smith stepped to the edge of the roof of the burned building, and was leaning over when the cornice gave way and dropped him to the pavement 75 feet below. Smith was 20 and lived with his parents at 33 Baltimore St.
