Meyers was killed when the pumper he was driving skidded off the gravel driveway and overturned while responding to a grass fire at the Ohio Military Institute. Meyers was crushed to death. Two other firefighters on the pumper jumped to safety as it rolled over. Meyers had been a fireman for nine years and lived with his wife and two children at 4651 Burr Oak Street, Winton Place.
