Beckham died of smoke inhalation while fighting a blaze in a home at 760
Greenwood Avenue. Beckham had 30 years in the department and was 17 months
from retiring. The fire was in a third floor apartment. His wife Helen
Beckham, said, "I always knew it would be this way. He's a smoke eater. All
those oldtimers are." Beckham was 50 and lived with his family at 3533 Isben
Avenue in Oakley.
