Klingler was on the second floor of the fire house at English and Neave Streets when an alarm sounded for the shelter house at Bold Face Park (Fairbanks and River Rd). He ran to the sliding pole and as he stepped out to slide the pole he lost his grip on the pole and fell to the first floor. He struck his head and was unconscious when picked up. Because he was the driver of the apparatus, another company was dispatched to extinguish the blaze. Klingler was a 20 year veteran of the Department and lived at 3023 Hull Ave in Westwood with his wife and a daughter.
