Norris was found laying over his hoseline after the east wall of the Newton Tea & Spice Company collapsed on him and other members who were playing streams of water into the building during a fire. The wall collapsed without warning as result of an explosion within the building. Norris and three other firemen were killed and fourteen injured when the wall collapsed. Norris was unmarried and lived at 1310 Broadway.
