Adams, driver for Ladder Company 3, was thrown from his seat and instantly killed wiole responding
to a still alarm at Rencomb Junction, Columbia. In an attempt to avoid East End Car 11, the ladder
wagon wheels got caught in the tracks and Adams was unable to swing out of them. The wagon and
team collided with the car and Adams was thrown from his seat between the horses feet, breaking
his neck. Adams was 59 and left a widow and several children.
